As a type of helical spring, torsion springs exert a torque or rotary force when twisting its end along its axis. Though the name suggests otherwise, torsion springs are exposed to bending stress opposed to torsional stress.
They have the capacity to store and release angular energy as well as statically keep a mechanism in place.
